Marutama Ramen

Theres this unassuming shop in Liang Court that sells Ramen at a decent pricing on the 2nd floor called "Marutama Ramen". I had an opportunity to go and have dinner there last night.

The first thing that struck me was how traditionally Japanese the whole place looked. Wooden furnishings, wooden signs with food names painted on in Japanese, and of course the chef was Japanese as well.

I ordered the dish bearing the shop's name and I was initially disappointed by the lack of fancy ingredients and the presence of only a single slice of pork. That disappointment disappeared very quickly as not only was the flavoring of the soup fantastic and addictive, the single slice of pork mentioned above was the most heavenly slice I've ever eaten in any ramen joint. The noodles were great as well - they were of the fine sort and not the thicker kinds you see in most shops and they were neither too soggy nor hard.

What really impressed me was the presence of a freeflow of roast garlic available on your table. The roast garlic was of top quality and enhanced the otherwise repetitive taste of every mouthful of soup and noodle.

The noodles themselves were very decently priced as well - at $12 a bowl it beats the price of more pricey ramen joints like Tampopo and costs only slightly more than crappy shops such as Ajisen. The taste and simplicity of Marutama's ramen however far surpasses its price and makes we want to go back for more.
